Nate Diaz Went on Theo Von's Podcast and Went to War With Basically Everyone in MMA

Nate Diaz showed up three hours late to Theo Von's podcast and then went to war with half of MMA. Nate Diaz confirmed the UFC offered him more money than MVP but he turned it down because they wanted him to fight McGregor instead of Oliveira for the BMF belt. Then he went off on DC, Poirier, and announced he's hunting Jake Paul in MMA after the Perry fight.

Nate Diaz just did a podcast with Theo Von and I don't even know where to start because he came for literally everybody. Daniel Cormier, Charles Oliveira, Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor. Even the UFC. All of them caught strays in like two hours. And he showed up three hours late to do it.

This is peak Nate Diaz. The man hasn't fought in MMA since 2022, he's six weeks away from his comeback against Mike Perry on the Netflix card, and instead of doing normal media where you hype up your opponent and say the right things, he sat down on This Past Weekend and chose violence against every name he could think of. I watched the whole thing and bro, I need to break down everything that happened because there's like seven different stories buried in this one podcast.

He Showed Up Three Hours Late and Theo Called Him Out

Before we even get to the fight talk, Nate Diaz and Chris Avila showed up three hours late to the podcast. Three hours. Theo Von called them out for it on air and honestly, it's Nate Diaz bro what do you expect. The man operates on Stockton time and the rest of the world just has to deal with it.

He Turned Down the Conor McGregor Trilogy

This is the one everybody's going to talk about. Nate confirmed that the UFC offered him a return fight and the promotion wanted it to be the McGregor trilogy. And he said no.

Not because of money. He actually said the UFC offered him MORE money than MVP did. He turned it down because of who the opponent was.

"I want to fight the best of the best when they are the best of the best. Conor's great, but I'm not trying to go kill off Conor when he's on his last dying fking leg, literally. That's fked up. I'm not trying to be the ending to some f**ker's story like that. We ain't friends, we ain't none of that, but I ain't trying to finish this dude off."

That's genuinely one of the most respectful things Nate Diaz has ever said about Conor McGregor. In his own Nate Diaz way, he's basically saying "I don't want to be the guy who ends him." He wants the trilogy to happen when both of them are at their best, not when one of them is coming back from a broken leg and a five year layoff.

He also said something that I think flew under the radar. "At the same time, I ain't trying to get f**ked up by nobody who just got knocked out on his ass. This guy's down and out, now he's nothing but motivated to fight me because who else are you going to fight in there?"

So the logic is Conor is either too far gone for the fight to mean anything, or he's too desperate and dangerous because he has nothing to lose. Either way, Nate doesn't like the timing. He wants Conor to come back, get a win, and then they can run it back properly.

I respect that. We wrote about McGregor's July 11 comeback on here and one of the big questions was who he'd fight. Nate just removed himself from that conversation.

"That's My Belt You're Wearing" - He Went Off on Oliveira

www.tapology.com

Okay so here's what Nate actually wanted from the UFC. Not Conor. He wanted Charles Oliveira for the BMF belt.

"BMF belt, fking bch ass Oliveira, who I believe I'd beat the fking sh*t out of. People I've beaten have beaten him. I beat Pettis; Pettis choked that fool. I beat Cerrone; Cerrone kicked him all up in his ass, punked him like a little bch. He's walking around with my belt!"

Nate genuinely believes the BMF belt is his. And technically, he's got a point. He created the division. The BMF title exists because of the Diaz vs Masvidal fight at UFC 244. And now Oliveira is walking around with it after beating Holloway at UFC 326 and Nate is sitting there watching somebody else carry the thing he invented.

He also called out Oliveira for ducking him and then calling out McGregor instead. "This fool won the title, then Oliveira said no thanks to fighting me. A few months later, after Conor breaks his leg all up and gets knocked out, he goes 'I'll fight Conor McGregor.' But I thought you wanted bigger and better things? You're picking on people who are on their downfall."

And that's actually a strong argument. Oliveira turned down Diaz but then wanted McGregor, who's been out for five years. Nate's framing it as Oliveira only wanting the easy money fight, not the real challenge. Whether you agree with Nate's assessment of his own skills or not, the logic about the matchmaking is hard to argue with.

The Daniel Cormier Rant Was Personal

This one escalated fast. Nate went after DC with everything he had.

"I've never seen a single Daniel Cormier fight in my career, except for when I was on the same card as him one time. Picking up the dude, walking around like he owned him, then got knocked out on his ass. That was the only DC fight I've ever seen! And he wants to tell me what I should do and why I'm not a good fighter."

Then he went for the money. "Are you mad because you were the champion, and when I was nowhere near being a champion, I got paid way more money than you? That's a fking bitter little bch that's analyzing fights."

Cormier didn't let it slide either. He went on his YouTube channel and fired back. "The lowest form of insult is when someone says 'I made more money than you.' Nate Diaz made his biggest money fighting Conor McGregor, just as I made my biggest paydays fighting Jon Jones." Then DC went for the jugular. "He lost 13 times. I lost to two people in my life. It's hard for me to fathom losing to 13 people in the sport that you chose."

And then the line that's going to follow Nate around. "I will tell him you're average. Because that's exactly what you were."

Dude. This beef is not going away anytime soon lol. DC essentially called Nate a career gatekeeper who got rich off one rivalry and Nate called DC a bitter former champion who makes less money analyzing fights than Nate made losing them. Both of them have points. Neither of them is going to admit it.

The Dustin Poirier Thing Got Uncomfortable

Photo by John Locher / www.pennlive.com

This was the moment where the podcast got genuinely awkward. Theo Von is friends with Dustin Poirier. Close friends. And Nate started going in on Poirier with zero awareness of that dynamic.

"Poirier is a fking sorry little bch."

Theo tried to redirect: "I obviously disagree with how you feel about him."

Nate kept going: "He got penis removal surgery so we didn't get to fight. Let's make fun of him a little bit." He was referencing the hip injury that cancelled their UFC 230 fight in 2018.

Theo literally said "I'm gonna change the subject" and you could see him squirming. It was one of those podcast moments where the host realizes the guest is about to torch a friendship and there's nothing they can do about it.

Nate eventually added: "His estrogen levels were high. He's emotional."

I'm not going to lie, watching Theo try to navigate that was painful and hilarious at the same time. Nate doesn't care about your friendships. Nate doesn't care about the vibe. Nate is going to say what Nate is going to say and everybody else just has to figure out how to react in real time.

The Leon Edwards Sweat Explanation

Photo by Jeff Bottari / www.mmafighting.com

This one's also interesting because it's been a mystery for years. At UFC 263, Nate rocked Leon Edwards with a huge left hand in the final round, pointed at him while he stumbled, and then didn't push forward to finish him. It became one of the most viral moments in UFC history. The pointing. The taunt. And then nothing.

Fans have always asked: why didn't you go in for the kill?

Nate's answer: Sweat.

"I did go after him, let's clear it up. People don't understand, they just like to make that the narrative of what happened, but don't forget that this is 23 minutes of fighting in and let me tell you, my eyes, after a certain amount of time, I had sweat in my eyes."

He's saying he couldn't see. After 23 minutes of fighting, his own sweat was blinding him. He rocked Edwards, pointed at him because that's what Nate Diaz does, but physically couldn't follow up because he couldn't see where Edwards was going.

Is that the real reason? I don't know. It's a more honest answer than most fighters would give though. Most guys would just say "the round was almost over" or "I knew I was up on the scorecards." Nate said he had sweat in his eyes. That's either brutally honest or the biggest excuse of all time. Either way, its funny.

He's Hunting Jake Paul After Perry

The Perry fight on May 16 isn't the endgame. Nate made that clear. He wants Jake Paul in MMA.

"What do you think I'm doing here? I'm on the hunt. I'm gonna take his ass clean out. I've gotta fight Perry, get through that fight, which is a really big task at hand, and then we get the Jake Paul fight."

So the plan is beat Perry on the Netflix card, then challenge Jake Paul to an MMA fight. Nate already lost to Paul in boxing back in 2023, so an MMA rematch where Nate has the grappling advantage would be a completely different fight. And since Jake Paul owns MVP, the promotion that's putting on the card, the business side of it actually makes sense. Jake promoting his own MMA fight against Nate Diaz on Netflix would be massive.

What This All Means

Look, Nate Diaz on a podcast is never going to be a measured, professional media appearance. That's not who he is. That's not why people watch. You tune into a Nate Diaz interview because he's going to say something crazy, offend at least three people, and somehow make you respect him more by the end of it.

This episode delivered all of that. He turned down more money from the UFC because he didn't like the opponent. He called the BMF champion a b**ch. He made Theo Von physically uncomfortable by trashing his friend. He explained one of the biggest unsolved mysteries in UFC history with "I had sweat in my eyes." And he announced his plan to hunt Jake Paul in MMA.

The Perry fight is May 16 on Netflix. And if this podcast is any indication, the six weeks between now and then are going to be absolutely chaotic. Should be fun to see.
