McGregor vs Holloway 2 Is Official. Dana Dropped It During the Netflix Card
Dana White went live on Instagram during Ngannou's walkout on the Netflix card to announce McGregor vs Holloway 2 at UFC 329 on July 11. The timing was no accident. The McGregor comeback is real. And Dana made sure everybody heard about it on Rousey's biggest night.

Bro I'm not even gonna pretend I wasn't hyped when I saw the announcement. Conor McGregor vs Max Holloway. UFC 329, July 11. At T-Mobile Arena, International Fight Week. Five years since Conor last stepped in the Octagon and we finally have a date, an opponent, and a card.
But we need to talk about HOW the announcement happened because the timing was not an accident.
Dana White went live on Instagram and confirmed McGregor vs Holloway 2 on Saturday night. While the Netflix card was happening. While Francis Ngannou was literally walking to the cage for his fight against Philipe Lins. The biggest moment of MVP's debut event and Dana chose that exact moment to pull the trigger on the biggest announcement the UFC has made all year.
Like come on bro. We all know what that was.
The McGregor Return Is Real This Time
Before we get into the Dana stuff let me just be excited for a second because we've been tracking this for weeks. Conor said July 11. Dana told Jim Rome "he will fight this summer." And now it's official. McGregor vs Holloway 2 at UFC 329 during International Fight Week.
July 10, 2021. That's the last time Conor McGregor fought in the UFC. He broke his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 and the fight was stopped at the end of the first round. That was 1,827 days ago. Almost exactly five years.
And the opponent is Max Holloway. These two fought once before at UFC Fight Night 26 in August 2013. Conor won by unanimous decision. That was thirteen years ago. Both guys were basically kids. Conor hadn't won the featherweight belt yet. Holloway hadn't become the featherweight GOAT yet. Everything that made both of them famous happened AFTER that first fight.
Holloway went on to win the featherweight title and defend it multiple times. Beat Jose Aldo twice. Beat Brian Ortega. Beat Calvin Kattar in one of the most dominant performances in UFC history. Won the BMF title. Lost it to Oliveira. The man has had an entire Hall of Fame career since the last time he fought Conor.
And now they running it back thirteen years later. Both in completely different chapters of their lives. Both with something to prove and I honestly can't think of a better opponent for Conor's comeback. Holloway is elite, the storyline is built in, and the rematch has been requested by fans for over a decade.
July 11. I'm marking my calendar bro.
But the Timing Was Calculated
Okay now let me me get serious again because what Dana did Saturday night was one of the most transparent counter programming moves I've seen from him.
The Netflix card was good. Actually it was really good. Rousey armbarred Carano in 17 seconds and it was exactly what fans wanted to see. Perry beat up Diaz so badly his corner stopped the fight. Ngannou knocked out Lins in the first round. Despaigne flatlined JDS. Parnasse made his American debut with a first round TKO. The whole card was finishes.
325 million subscribers. A sold out Intuit Dome. The crowd was loud. The production was clean. MVP's first MMA event went about as well as Jake Paul could've hoped for.
And Dana chose that night, during that card, while Ngannou was walking to the cage, to announce the McGregor comeback.
If you think that timing was coincidence I have a bridge to sell you. Dana has been counter programming competition for twenty years. He did it to Affliction. He did it to Strikeforce. He did it to Bellator. And Saturday night he did it to MVP. The man waited until the biggest moment of their biggest event and dropped the biggest news bomb the UFC had in its back pocket.
Jake Paul didn't hold back at the post fight press conference. Called McGregor "the coke head" and said Dana and Conor are "insecure." Jake said if the UFC was confident in its product it wouldn't need to counter program a competitor's event with fight announcements. Ngannou was asked about it at the same presser and honestly his response was perfect. "I don't care bro."
Give the Netflix Card Its Credit
Here's the thing and I want to be clear about this because we've been writing about the Netflix card all year and I'm not about to let Dana's announcement overshadow what actually happened Saturday night.
We wrote about the $40K minimum pay. That happened. Every fighter got paid. Kenny Cross made five times what a UFC debut fighter would earn. The California State Athletic Commission will disclose the full purses and we'll see the receipts.
We wrote about the UFC's biggest stars leaving. Saturday was the proof. Rousey, Ngannou, Diaz, Perry, JDS. All former UFC fighters. All competing on a rival platform. All getting finished fights in front of 325 million subscribers.
Rousey called the UFC "one of the worst places to go" for fighters. Saturday night she proved there's a real alternative. And then she retired with a 17 second armbar and Joan Jett playing over the speakers. "There's no way I could've ended it better than this. I want to have some more babies." That's how you go out.
The card delivered. The fighters got paid. The production worked. And the UFC's response was to announce McGregor during the main card because that's what you do when you're not worried about the competition right?
McGregor vs Holloway 2. What to Expect
Look I'm going to save the full breakdown for when we get closer to July but here's where my head is at right now.
Conor is 37. He'll be almost 38 by fight night. Five years without competing. The sparring footage with Dong Hyun Kim leaked and it was fine but not spectacular. He's got the power, he's got the timing, but five years of cage rust is five years of cage rust. That doesn't go away in camp.
Holloway is 34. He's active. He just fought Oliveira for the BMF title. He's been in wars for thirteen straight years and he's still one of the best in the world. His cardio is legendary. His volume is relentless. And he's a significantly better fighter in 2026 than the kid who lost to Conor in 2013.
If Conor wins it's going to be in the first two rounds. His left hand is still the most dangerous weapon in the lightweight division when he's fresh. If Holloway survives those early rounds and takes this into the third, fourth, and fifth, Conor is going to be in deep water against a man who does his best work when other fighters are fading.
But honestly? I don't even care about the prediction right now. I just want to see the walkout. I want to hear the crowd when Conor's music hits for the first time in five years. I want to watch two guys who fought thirteen years ago step into the cage as completely different fighters and find out what happens.
July 11. T-Mobile Arena. McGregor vs Holloway 2. It's happening. For real this time.
And yeah Dana announced it during someone else's event because that's just who Dana is. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't refreshing my phone the second I saw the news.
